Fly Old Glory on Flag Day

Since 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson in a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14, Americans celebrated the adoption of their knowledge of the Day June 14 as Flag. Before 1916, many places and a few countries have been celebrated on the day for years. Signed legislation in Congress to set this date as the day a national science of law by President Harry Truman in 1949 and the legislation also called for the President to issue a declaration on science every year.

According to legend, in 1776, assigned to George Washington, Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross to create a new flag for the country. Known as Scholars debate this legend, but agree that Mrs. Ross most likely Washington and sewed flags.
